Skill Assessment

Skill Assessment for Skilled Migration

Skill assessment is a crucial component of any skilled migration or employer-sponsored visa application. It is mandatory for many visa subclasses, and obtaining a suitable skills assessment is essential for demonstrating that your skills meet the required standards.

At Mercury Immigration Consultants, we assist you in securing a skills assessment from the relevant authority for your field or occupation. Whether it's through ACS, CPA/IPA, TRA, VETASSESS, ANMAC/AHPRA, ACWA, Engineers Australia, or others, we guide you through the process to ensure your skills are assessed accurately.

Skills assessments are conducted by authorized bodies that verify your qualifications and experience against the standards required for your occupation. The list of eligible skilled occupations outlines all the professions covered under the various occupation lists.

Skills Assessment for Trade Occupations

  • Step 1 – Provisional Skills Assessment (PSA)
  • In the Provisional Skills Assessment (PSA) process, Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) will:
    - Confirm Your Identity: Verify that you are who you claim to be.
    - Validate Your Australian Qualifications: Ensure your qualifications meet the required standards.
    - Assess Your Current Role: Confirm that you are performing tasks and duties relevant to your nominated occupation within an Australian workplace. A successful PSA outcome is essential for:
    - Applying for a Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485): Use the PSA result to apply for this visa.
    - Progressing to Step 2 – Job Ready Employment (JRE): You must complete the PSA before you can apply for the JRE component of the Job Ready Program (JRP).
  • Step 2 – Job Ready Employment (JRE)
  • Following a successful Provisional Skills Assessment (PSA), the next step is the Job Ready Employment (JRE) component. This phase focuses on validating your practical work experience and ensuring that it aligns with the standards of your nominated occupation.
Key Aspects of Job Ready Employment:
    - Work Placement: You must be employed in a position that directly relates to your nominated occupation. The job must be full-time and in accordance with industry standards.
    - Duration: Typically, you need to complete a specified period of work, which can vary depending on your occupation and qualifications.
    - Documentation: Maintain accurate records of your work experience, including job descriptions, employer references, and pay slips. You will need to submit this evidence to TRA.
    - Assessment: TRA will review your employment records and may require additional documentation or interviews to confirm that your work experience meets the required standards.
  • Step 3 – Job Ready Workplace Assessment (JRWA)
  • Once you have completed a minimum of 863 hours of paid employment over at least six months, you may be eligible to proceed to Step 3 – Job Ready Workplace Assessment (JRWA). This step evaluates your competence in the workplace and ensures that you meet the industry standards for your nominated occupation.

    - Eligibility Requirements:
    - Minimum Hours: You must provide evidence of at least 863 hours of paid employment in your nominated occupation.
    - Employment Duration: This work must have been completed over a period of no less than six months.

    - Required Evidence:
    - Skilled Progress Report: This report details your tasks and duties during the employment period, demonstrating how they align with the expectations of your occupation.
    - Payslips/Invoices and Bank Statements: You must submit financial evidence that verifies your paid employment. These documents should show that you have been regularly compensated for your work in the relevant occupation.
  • Step 4 – Job Ready Final Assessment (JRFA)
  • After successfully completing the Job Ready Workplace Assessment (JRWA) and providing verified evidence of at least 1,725 hours of paid employment over a minimum of 12 calendar months, you may proceed to Step 4 – Job Ready Final Assessment (JRFA). This final assessment verifies that you have acquired the necessary skills, knowledge, and experience required to work in your nominated occupation in Australia.

    Eligibility Criteria:
    - Paid Employment: You must have accumulated at least 1,725 hours of paid work in your nominated occupation, spread over at least 12 months.
-Successful JRWA: Completion of the Job Ready Workplace Assessment is required before proceeding to the final assessment.
